Meeting Minutes

                                

                                                       December 4, 2008

 

 Call to order

Chuck McCaughey called to order the regular meeting of the Apponaug Girl’s Softball Board of Directors at 6:30pm on 12/04/08 in Winslow Park Fieldhouse.

1. Updates

a)      President McCaughey gave highlights from recent Pony and ASA meetings. 

Pony has changed the birthdate cut-off.  New date is as of Dec. 31st.  Also, player uniform number has to be on the game line-up card.

ASA has new rule starting 2009- at least 1 coach per team has to be ACE coach certified.  Certification obtained by taking an on-line test and paying a fee.

Regional changes:  States and Regionals are now open to anyone.  4 game guarantee. RI hosting 12’s and 14’s.  Maine hosting 16’s.

 2. Travel Teams

         a)   Discussion about 2009 travel tournaments and which tournaments might be possibilities outside of the ones hosted by AGS.  Travel coaches chose their indoor practice times. 

.3. Recreational Season Team Sponsors and Signage Sponsors

     a)  Discussion about sending sponsorship letters and contacting supporting businesses earlier than last year. 

4. Spring Rec. Fees  

      a)  AGS Board of Directors voted to raise the cost of Spring Rec. to $70 per player.  Family fee will be $120.  These fees are applicable to the major and master divisions.  The minors and instructional divisions will remain at $50 a player.  Decision to make fees non-refundable once the season begins was agreed upon.

5. Spring Sign-ups

       a)  Reiterated that Spring Sign-up dates are January 24th at both Dick’s Sporting Goods and the Warwick Police Station and February 28th at those same locations.  AGS BOD voted to purchase a printer in preparation for sign-ups.

Adjournment

President McCaughey adjourned the meeting after setting the date for the next board meeting to be Thursday, January 8th.

 Call to order

1. State of the League

a)      Airport Expansion: No change, 5 years from now possible start, may take field #1 but will be replaced 

b)      Financial: General update provided.  Approximately $4,000 in general fund and $20,000 in other funds

c)      Enrollment: numbers are up.  2008 had highest enrollment since the league went fastpitch. 10U enrollment strong during rec. season, concern over interest level in 10U travel.  2009 10U travel TBD.

 

2. 2009 Season

a)       Pick dates for in person sign-ups:  Dates were decided upon and are to be posted on the AGS website. Two potential locations for signups.  Dates are set for Saturday January24th and Saturday February 28th.  Tentative locations are Warwick Police Station and Dick’s Sporting Goods.  Final dates with correct locations to be posted on AGS website. Plans to send out a mass email stating dates for signups.

Pick dates for Spring try-outs:  Winman is currently unavailable, John Henry making arrangements for clinic and tryout.  Potential dates discussed would be either March 14th or March 21st.  Settled on date for opening day- April 25th.  Spring games to begin April 20th.  Cleanup Day set for April 14th.

3. 2009 Travel Season

a)      Use of our fields by Thunder for a Showcase Tournament:  Request by Thunder to be denied based upon board member votes.

b)     How big do we want our tournaments:  Looking to keep the number of teams in the older divisions to 24 in total based on the fields at Winslow Park.  Possible to have 6 more with younger teams playing on the small field.

c)      Winter practices, pitcher and catcher clinics:  Pitching clinics to begin Friday December 5th from 8:15-9:45pm in small gym at Warwick Vets.  Winter practices set to begin Saturday January 3rd and Sunday January 4th at Tolgate.  Available times are Saturday 1:30-4:30pm and Sunday 8am-12:30pm.  CCRI is available Sunday from 6-8pm.
