Richard E. Durning  was a co-founder of the Apponaug Girls Softball League and  a coach  in the league for 15 years. He resided in Warwick for 28 years and  worked for the City of Warwick as a heavy equipment mechanic for 17 years. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Brad Goff Post 9032, Warwick. Mr. Durning died March 16, 2003.
